Neighborhood notes

Northeast Heights & Far Northeast Heights

Established residential neighborhoods with significant single-family conversion potential, including Tanoan, Glenwood Hills, and the Foothills areas. Most addresses are inside the ABCWUA service area.

North Valley & Corrales

Traditional New Mexican neighborhoods with mature trees, acequias, and Southwest courtyard design. Note: Corrales addresses may be served by a different water provider — water provider is confirmed by address before rebate planning.

Sandia Heights & Foothills

Higher-elevation residential areas at the base of the Sandias. Plant palette emphasizes natives that complement the surrounding wild landscape and survive cold winter snaps.

Westside, Ventana Ranch & Paradise Hills

Newer master-planned communities with extensive HOA-managed common areas and active residential conversion. Many addresses are inside the ABCWUA service area; HOA approval is often required.

Rio Rancho

Sandoval County's largest city. Rio Rancho is not part of the ABCWUA xeriscape rebate program. The City of Rio Rancho runs its own Outdoor Rebates program — including xeriscaping — with separate pre-approval rules and rebate amounts. Current City guidance says xeriscape projects require pre-approval before work begins and at least 250 square feet of real grass turf must still be in place during pre-approval. Rio Rancho rebate planning must follow City of Rio Rancho rules, not ABCWUA rules.

South Valley & East Mountain Communities (Tijeras, Edgewood)

Established residential and rural-residential properties. Provider availability and water provider vary by address; service area, scope, and rebate eligibility are confirmed before work begins.

Water provider is confirmed by address

ABCWUA serves Albuquerque and most of Bernalillo County. Corrales, Bernalillo, Placitas, Los Lunas, Belen, Tijeras, and Edgewood addresses may be served by different utilities — water provider is confirmed by address before any rebate planning.

Rio Rancho — separate City of Rio Rancho program

Rio Rancho is not part of the ABCWUA xeriscape rebate program. Rio Rancho has its own City of Rio Rancho Outdoor Rebates program with separate rules, pre-approval requirements, minimum turf requirements, and rebate amounts. Current City guidance says pre-approval is required before beginning a xeriscape project, and at least 250 square feet of real grass turf must still be in place during the pre-approval process. Confirm current rules directly with the City of Rio Rancho Water Conservation Office before planning a Rio Rancho project around any rebate. See the dedicated Rio Rancho xeriscape page for pre-approval requirements, the 250 sqft minimum turf rule, and the $1.00/sqft City rebate credit.
