Step 1 — Submit a request by phone or form
You can submit a consultation request two ways:
- By phone: Call the number shown at the top of any page. The line is not a live dispatch line — calls are reviewed and returned during business hours. Leave a message with your property address, approximate square footage, and the type of project (turf removal, full xeriscape conversion, drip irrigation, rebate help, or other).
- By form: Use the contact form to provide property details, irrigation type, HOA situation, water provider, and any questions about ABCWUA or Rio Rancho rebate timing. The form asks for the information a provider needs to determine whether the project fits their scope and service area.
Step 2 — Request review
After submission, the request is reviewed during business hours against three criteria:
- Service area: The property address must be within the Albuquerque metro or an area served by current routing partners. Rio Rancho and surrounding communities are reviewed separately because they use the City of Rio Rancho Outdoor Rebates program, not the ABCWUA xeriscape rebate. Properties outside the service area will receive a response indicating that.
- Project scope: Requests must fit what the site covers — xeriscape installation, turf removal, sprinkler-to-drip conversion, native and drought-tolerant planting, rock and gravel hardscape, HOA xeriscape conversion, commercial xeriscape, or ABCWUA and Rio Rancho rebate-ready planning. Mowing, tree removal, fencing, pest control, fountain installation, and general landscaping outside xeriscape scope are not handled.
- Provider availability: Routing depends on whether a matched provider is currently accepting requests for the project type and location. Availability is not guaranteed and can change. If no provider is currently available for a project, the request will not be routed.
Step 3 — Routing to a provider
When a request fits all three criteria, it may be shared with an independent local New Mexico xeriscape designer or installer. The routing is not a guarantee of service — it is the beginning of a conversation between you and a matched provider.
There is no service guarantee, response-time guarantee, or rebate guarantee. This site does not guarantee that a provider will be available, that a proposal will be issued, that work will be performed, or that an ABCWUA or Rio Rancho rebate will be approved.
Step 4 — Provider confirmation before any work begins
Before any work begins, the matched provider should confirm the following with you directly and in writing:
- Provider legal business name
- Written scope of work
- Written, itemized pricing
- Schedule and start window
- License or registration information where applicable
- Insurance documentation (commercial general liability)
- Workers compensation documentation where applicable
- Warranty terms, if any
- Change-order process
- Rebate responsibilities and ownership of the application
Do not allow work to begin without written confirmation of scope, pricing, schedule, and rebate responsibilities. This site is not a party to the contract between you and the matched provider.
ABCWUA rebate projects: timing is critical
For projects intending to use the ABCWUA Water Conservation Rebate, the timing of the request matters significantly:
- ABCWUA application, initial inspection, and approval (Notice to Proceed) must happen before any turf is removed.
- Removing turf before ABCWUA approval can disqualify the entire project from the rebate — even if everything else qualifies.
- The matched provider can help prepare rebate documentation, but rebate eligibility, inspection, approval, amount, funding availability, and payment timing are controlled entirely by ABCWUA.
- This site does not approve, deny, or pay rebates, and cannot guarantee any rebate outcome.
Confirm current rebate rules, amounts, plant allowances, and inspection requirements directly at abcwua.org before removing any turf.
Rio Rancho requests
Rio Rancho is not in the ABCWUA service area and is not eligible for the ABCWUA xeriscape rebate. The City of Rio Rancho has its own Outdoor Rebates program with separate pre-approval requirements, a minimum real-turf requirement during the pre-approval process, and a different rebate amount. Rio Rancho requests are reviewed under the Rio Rancho rules, not ABCWUA rules. See the Rio Rancho xeriscape page for details.
What happens if no provider is available
If no provider is currently accepting requests for the project type, location, or scope, the request will not be routed. You will receive a response indicating that routing is not available. In that case:
- You are welcome to resubmit later — provider availability changes.
- You can search for licensed Albuquerque xeriscape contractors independently through the New Mexico Regulation and Licensing Department or referrals.

Compensation and lead sharing
Albuquerque Xeriscape may receive compensation when a submitted request is routed to and accepted by a matched provider. This does not affect the information published on the site — the site does not endorse specific contractors, rank providers, or guarantee any provider's work quality, pricing, licensing, or insurance status. All provider claims should be verified directly with the matched provider before work begins.
